Three Bawm people killed by BD Army in Ruma
On 24 November, three villagers belonging to ethnic Bawm communit, including a 72-year-old man, were killed by members of the Bangladesh Army in Munnuyampara area under Ruma Upazila of Bandarban distirct.
According to sources, they were killed when a group of soldiers from the Bangladesh Army opened a barrage of gunfire and threw bombs into a jungle adjacent to Munnuyampara village.
The victims have been identified as Eldar Penkhup, 72, an abbot of Sharon-para Christian Church, Messi Vul-lal-lian, 19, and his wife Eli Vunjirpar, 18. She was reportedly pregnant when she was killed.
The Inter-Services Public Relations directorate (ISPR) in a statement described the victims as “members of the Kuki-chin National Front (KNF)” and the incident as “exchange of gunfire with the KNF.”
However, the KNF disputed the claim of the BD Army and narrated its own version of the incident on its Facebook page.
UPDF organizer killed in Panchari
On 10 November, at 12 noon, an armed gang loyal to a pro-CHT accord political party launched an attack on UPDF, killing Mithon Chakma, one of its organizers, in Panchari of Khagrachari district.
Mithon Chakma joined the UPDF in late 2022 after completing post-graduation at Chittagong University. He was also president of the Hill Students’ Council Chittagong University branch.
He is from the village of Udol Bagan in Dighinala Upazila and son of Sushanta Chakma.
