Army patrol at Sadhana Tila Buddhist Temple

On 27 October, a group of army from Babuchara subzone in Dighinala Upazila of Khagrachari district carried out a patrolling operation at Sadhana Tila Buddhist Temple area, creating panic among the residents.

The soldiers entered the temple precinct in threatening postures and stayed there for 10 – 15 minutes.

Then they took positions at the entrance of the temple and interrogated and videoed the villagers working in their gardens.

The soldiers also flew a drone over the area apparently to intimidate the Jumma residents and went to the house of Amar Sindhu Chakma, an activist of the United Peoples Democratic Front (UPDF).

The army and Bengali settlers have been trying to capture the temple land for a long time. In 2007, they made several unsuccessful attempts to grab the said land.
